Mary Baker is the coordinator of SMARTspace@NIU, which provides virtual interdisciplinary learning opportunities for pre-K-12th grade learners. The program integrates science, math, engineering, art, and technology (STEAM) to meet standards such as the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and IL Fine Arts Standards. Mary promotes student creativity through online problem-based learning opportunities to help learners collaborate, engage in STEAM activities, develop innovative solutions to authentic problems, and make connections across multiple disciplines. Formerly, an art and technology specialist in Louisiana, Mary made her way north to Chicagoland to work at NIU.
